As a burlesque dancer who got her fill of stripping on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, I knew it was something that wasn't right for me in the long run, but I'm glad I tried it and moved in a different direction to get into burlesque.
I think a lot of people don't know enough to know where to stand, but most people open there mouths before they think it through.

It is true that a burlesque show is different from what you will see in a modern strip club but some of the biggest names in neo-burlesque ( Dita von Teese, Catherine D'Lish, Jo Boobs and Indigo Blue to name a few) paid their dues in strip clubs. Dita, for instance, refers to herself as a stripper and is quick to point out that the great Gypsy Rose Lee did the same. What has happened is with burlesque garnering more main stream acceptance, many burlesquers haven't worked in strip clubs and therefore think of themselves as being better than their sisters working the pole. Sure they may not be doing lap dances in the VIP room or going fully nude but if you are taking off your clothes on a stage in front of room full of strangers, you are stripping and therefore are a stripper. Since burlesque shows may have comedy acts or musical numbers not every burlesque performer is a stripper but at the end of the day, there is almost always someone that is going to strip. The strip tease was born in burlesque and the modern strip clubs came from burlesque so while they may not be the same they are closely related.

I still do however, find your viewpoint representative of an era that ended, as you pointed out, decades earlier.

Oh no of course not. I suppose that she could simply google 'second wave feminism'. Then she would know exactly what that was before linking to a post, written by me, therein implying that I am, in fact, a second wave feminist. Just a couple of decades off is all. I find the internet to be enormously helpful when trying to build arguments about things one might be entirely unfamiliar with.
