Incredibly annoyingly, Nominet, the organisation in charge of .uk domains, has started to insist that they have ‘real’ names in the whois, along with ‘real’ addresses for anyone who’s not got an ad-less totally non-commercial site. Among the things they use to check that is the electoral roll and they have the right to delete domain registrations if they’re not happy.

It’s for ‘safety’, apparently, but safety for who? Certainly not everyone with a .co.uk escort site.

All day I’ve had that empty feeling like after you summon the nerve to ask out some dude and he blinks and walks away. It was a big deal for me to write this piece for the campaign, and as much as I recognize my reaction is skewed, I’ve felt as if the internet’s mostly all like “HOLY CATS! HILLARY DUFF IS PREGNANT!!??” It’s nice to see you recognizing the importance of my small gesture, of giving the name I legally keep as my own.
