The idea of T&S coming so far after being only a blank page, the connections between sex workers... This post had me feeling a little sentimental. (Or maybe that's just my PMS?) All of my closest female friends in adulthood have been women I've met through sex work. I've never stripped, but even through webcam work and escorting, the connections I made with other women doing the same were/are so precious to me. I always think of my best friend, who is former sex worker, saying, "regular friendships just don't have the same intensity." It's so true.

Terry Richardson shouldn't even be called a 'photographer'.

I had been thinking that strippers in PDX should find some kind of photo-portraiture-project, contrasting our day and work wear. I think the best part of coming and leaving a shift is seeing what we wear for ourselves.

If you haven't already, have a look at Susan Meiselas' Carnival Strippers for a photographic document of a previous era of sex performance. To me, it creates a subtle portrait of the show and avoids any easy conclusions about exploitation. Not bad for an aspiring photojournalist! It also manages to reflect upon the voyeurism of the photographer and as such the viewer. I'm a bit surprised you like the diCorcia work, it seems quite lacking in psychological depth which makes it rather unreflectively voyeuristic, seeming to distance the viewer from the performers. I guess you could say it is a celebration of their beauty or talent but it doesn't make me feel I know anything more about the dancers, or even intrigue me to know more. I'd say Alicia Vera's photos are much more interesting than diCorcia's.
