Thanks for the link to the Estes & Weiner report. I’d heard of that & not seen the original before.

Well done, Jenny!! I have been angered and disturbed by Slave Hunter for many reasons since learning about it via Twitter. I hadn’t yet considered many of the ideas that you articulate so well here. I admire your skillful analysis in which you “zoom out,” bringing to light the larger cultural implications (cultural boners!!) of this media phenomenon. I really appreciate this article!!

They refuse to be screened, and then they put people on TV – for that reason alone, they have people terrified. They appear to film without consent and are not connected to local resources or even local law enforcement. Local organizations have been informed that Manhattan’s Midtown Community Court, a court that hears prostitution cases, “encountered Mr. Cohen when he advocated with staff to let a woman leave in his custody and go to California. He did not reveal his connection to MSNBC or a documentary. He claimed to be connected to several District Attorneys who when asked denied any connection with him. The Midtown Community Court referred the client to one of their trusted service providers who worked with her. At her next court appearance, the client stated that she didn’t want to go with Mr. Cohen. Court staff helped the client exit the building safely while Mr. Cohen waited outside the building with a video crew.”
