Do three cover stories of mainstream mags signals a paradigm shift in the conversation about prostitution? (I'm including The Economist's August 9, 2014 outright call for decriminalization, altho they're Brits, so they call for decriminalisation...) Dunno, but I am glad to see it, though. What I especially liked were the images in the NYT Mag piece-- folks who look like People I Know. Nice to see you, too, Priscilla A.-- you're an idol of mine!!

Yes. Yes. Yes. It's a hard thing, I imagine, to report on a culture and its people like us sex workers, looking in from the outside. Few do it well enough, and yet there's almost an entire cottage industry, if you will, of academia built around sex work and sex workers (fuck most of them, by the way). I'm glad Emily wrote the piece, although she didn't know enough to stay away from a few fake activist divas featured in the article (not her fault, how was she to know?). (How about writing a piece on those people, Josephine? The ones with the shakey background stories, the grant-writing hustlers that academia cream their jeans over, the appropriators who have no business and yet no problem exploiting the very people they supposedly represent for no reason other than self-promotion? Oh, the stories we could tell!)
